Data Sources
Data sources represent the input data you use to build your segmentations in Unaric Segment. You configure them in the Selection Criteria step by dragging and dropping your desired sources from the Available Data Extensions section into the Selected Data Sources section.
Supported data sources
Unaric Segment supports the following data sources:
The foundational customizable tables used to store subscriber information, custom attributes, or transactional data.
Unaric Segment supports Standard, Synchronized (from your CRM), Shared, and Salesforce Data Extensions.
Data Views
System-managed tables that store your subscribers' behavioral and event tracking data, such as email sends, opens, and clicks.
Data Sets
Predefined combinations of multiple Data Extensions to apply complex data relationships without manual configuration.
Intermediary Data Extensions generated by running scheduled Selections that consolidate, filter, or aggregate data from various Data Extensions and Data Views.
Best practices
Because SFMC is a marketing automation platform rather than a bulk data storage or processing system, you should follow two main rules when importing data:
Only import data you actively use
Use as few Data Extensions as possible under Selection Criteria. You should only bring in data if it will be used to generate audience segments or to personalize your marketing content. If a specific field or Data Extension does not serve either of these purposes, you should leave it out of SFMC.
Import summaries instead of raw transactional data
Because SFMC struggles with heavy data processing and massive volumes of data, you should avoid importing raw logs of every single customer transaction. Instead, you should pre-filter your data to include only recent records, or calculate simplified aggregations (such as a simple "Yes/No" for "Has bought in the last month?") before uploading that information into the platform.
