In Previous & In Next
These filter types are available for Date field types.
All dates in Salesforce Marketing Cloud are stored in UTC format. When you select a date and time in a DESelect Segment filter, the platform queries that exact UTC timestamp directly from your Data Extension, completely ignoring your personal user timezone settings.
For example, if you filter for "December 5, 2019 12:00 AM", the platform returns records matching that time, regardless of your local timezone. If you want to filter based on a local time instead of the server time, you can use the Convert TimezoneConvert Timezone feature.
in previous filter type
The in previous filter includes records where a date field falls within the previous number of days, weeks, months, or years from the current date. Common use cases include:
- Identify customers who recently engaged
- Pull email opens from the past week
- Find form submissions in the last month
- Generate rolling windows for churn analysis
Example
You want to find customers who purchased in the last 30 days.
Order Date → in previous → 30 days
in next filter type
The in next filter includes records where a date field falls within the upcoming number of days, weeks, months, or years from today. Common use cases include:
- Send reminders for upcoming renewals or events
- Highlight expiring offers
- Schedule follow-up emails for upcoming actions
- Prepare for future lifecycle milestones
Example
You want to target customers who's birthday is in the upcoming month. You would apply:
Birthdate → in next → 1 month
