use the scan & search component to access salesforce records from barcodes using mobile devices scan & search operates by scanning a single barcode at a time use cases include accessing customer records at a service desk inventory management in warehouses asset tracking in the field event check ins the component attempts to find matching records in two ways salesforce id match if the scanned value matches a salesforce id, the corresponding record opens automatically sa id field match if no salesforce id match is found, the system searches for the scanned value in sa id c fields across all objects in your org users can re use existing or pre printed barcodes by linking them to specific salesforce records using the sa id c field setup and configuration scan & search is pre configured as a lightning page tab administrators can position this tab in the salesforce navigation menu for easy access additionally, to add scan & search as a global action on salesforce, go to setup > global actions create a new global action using the provided custom visualforce action choose changeicon and select the barcodeicon add the action to desired page layouts using scan & search on the salesforce mobile app, open the scan & search component tap the scan button to open the camera once the camera scanner finds a matching barcode, it will open the record in the app limitations scan & search is optimized for mobile devices and may not function on desktop interfaces only one barcode can be scanned at a time scan & search does not integrate into a flow
