Notification Banners
notification banners are the front end display components that surface notices to users banners are embedded directly into salesforce pages and show each user's active notifications , which originate from published notices across one or more noticeboards how it works banners display notifications that result from notices published via one or more noticeboards each banner can be global – aggregating notices from multiple noticeboards targeted – configured to show only notices from a specific noticeboard (e g , nb compliance) the appearance and behaviour of a banner are configurable via global settings and component options depending on your setup, the banner can appear on salesforce standard pages, console apps, portal/community apps, and custom visualforce pages when a user clicks a notification in the banner they are directed to a detailed notification view completing the required action removes the item from the banner the banner updates in real time or on page refresh, depending on configuration banner display modes banners are available in several formats, allowing you to fit them into different salesforce ui contexts format description suggested location listing displays a vertical list of all current notifications narrow sidebar areas carousel shows one notification at a time with arrows to scroll utility bar or page headers news ticker scrolls notices horizontally, one at a time dashboards or homepages if there are no active notifications , the banner can be configured to hide itself or display a custom message available components component description notification banner (carousel) displays one notification at a time in a horizontal scrolling layout ideal for headers, utility bars, or narrow form factors, with optional pop up behavior notification banner (list view) shows a vertical list of active notices works well in sidebars or narrow page sections notification ticker continuously scrolls notifications across the screen (e g , like a news ticker) best for dashboards or full width layouts banners location embed banners where users work most frequently (e g , utility bar or record pages) you can add notification banners to the following salesforce contexts lightning record pages app home pages utility bars salesforce console apps (lightning and classic) lightning communities classic communities (e g , napili) classic salesforce pages custom visualforce pages (using classic banners or lightning components via lightning out) embed banners you can add banners to different types of salesforce experiences lightning experience drag and drop banner components into any lightning page or utility bar console apps use either classic or lightning banners, added via custom console components communities banners can be added to classic or lightning community pages visualforce banners can be exposed using lightning out each banner component allows configuration options such as default noticeboard filter header/footer visibility height and image scaling user ability to minimize lightning ui to embed a notification banner into a lightning page go to setup > object manager , select the object you want to modify (e g , account, case) navigate to lightning record pages , then click edit or new in the lightning app builder from the components panel, search for "notification banner" to view available layouts (e g , carousel, list view, ticker) drag the desired component onto the page configure the component in the right hand properties panel default noticeboard filter to a specific noticeboard if needed header/footer show or hide these elements height/width/scroll speed adjust layout behavior (e g , for carousel, set component body height to control appearance) full size image use when height accommodates the full image (set by the notice author or via the default image parameter), with text spread across three lines and selector lozenges below scaled image reduces image size as height decreases single line compresses text to one line for wider form factors (e g , page headers) minimization allow users to collapse the banner (optional) suppress header/footer optionally hide header and footer areas for a streamlined look click save , then activate the page layout to add a notification banner to the lightning utility bar go to setup > apps > app manager , select the lightning app, and click edit navigate to the utility items section in the app builder add a new utility item search for "notification banner" (e g , carousel or list view) configure settings (similar to lightning pages, including default noticeboard, header/footer, height/width, minimization, etc ) save the app configuration to add a notification banner to a lightning console go to setup > object manager , select the object, and edit its lightning record pages in the lightning app builder , drag a notification banner component (e g , carousel or list view) onto the page or add it to the utility bar (similar to the lightning utility bar setup above) configure the component settings as described in the lightning pages section save and activate the page layout classic ui whilst there are many ways to add the noticeboard banner to your salesforce pages, to get going quickly for testing, we recommend adding the packaged sidebar (narrow) component besides, this setup is ideal for displaying notices in a narrow sidebar column go to setup > customize > home > home page components add the packaged noticeboard (narrow) component to the appropriate users' home page layouts ensure the user interface setting show custom sidebar components on all pages is enabled in setup > customize > user interface save the layout to add a notification banner to a classic console app go to setup > app setup > customize > service cloud console > custom console components create a new custom console component provide a memorable name and button name assign the notification banner (classic) page set suggested dimensions width 1200 pixels , height 80 pixels (adjust based on monitor size/resolution) save the component add the component to a console app in setup , select the desired salesforce console app and click edit in the choose custom console components section, select the new component and click add choose the alignment for custom console components save the
