org chart integrates with google workspace to share and manage employee data there are two synchronization options one way synchronization , import data from google workspace to create your org chart, and two way synchronization, which keeps both platforms updated one way synchronization information from google workspace is synchronized to the org chart, but changes made in the org chart do not sync back to google workspace employee data (name, email, photo, department, and supervisor) is only imported from google workspace when the org chart is created and you cannot edit or update employee data directly in the org chart what you can do add custom employees directly into the org chart (not synced with google workspace) add, remove, or place custom users freely create custom fields in the org chart (not synced with google workspace) what you cannot do edit employees (e g , changing their supervisor or department, email address, or employee id) directly in the org chart — these changes will not be reflected in google workspace delete workspace employees from the org chart; they can only be replaced within the directory view archived, suspended, or deleted users from google workspace will not appear in the org chart new employees added in google workspace will appear in the org chart directory but must be manually placed under the appropriate department or supervisor you cannot edit email addresses and employee ids in the org chart two way synchronization employee data is synchronized between both google workspace and the org chart in both directions, creating a unified source of truth what you can do edit employee data directly in the org chart, and changes will reflect in google workspace create new employees in the org chart (these will not sync with google workspace due to licensing restrictions) remove employees from the org chart (does not affect google workspace records) add custom fields in the org chart for org chart specific information (not synced with google workspace) create an org chart go to charts https //app orgchart unaric com/charts and click the + create new org chart button enter a name for the org chart additionally, you can pick up an emoji to distinguish it click continue you will be asked to choose how to start your org chart select google workspace set permission settings check synchronize changes with google workspace to enable two way sync check show google calendar in employee detail to include employee google calendar details click create org chart you will be asked by google to provide additional permissions after checking permissions, click continue to finish sync timing details sync runs automatically and typically reflects changes right away however, depending on the number of changes, sync time may increase if updates take more than 24 hours to appear, please contact our support team the time it takes for synchronization between google workspace and org chart varies, but typically ranges from a few minutes to several hours the exact duration depends on factors like the type of data being synced, the number of users, the complexity of the changes, and the specific third party application some changes, like user updates, may sync in real time or within 15 minutes, while other changes like those to groups or organizational units might take longer here's a more detailed breakdown real time or near real time (minutes) user changes can be updated in near real time every few minutes (15 minutes) changes to groups and organizational units in google workspace are polled and updated every 15 minutes several hours (3 6 hours or longer) some specific scenarios, like the initial sync may take significantly longer automatic sync (1 6 hours) automatic synchronizations in google workspace often run every 1 6 hours manual sync (a few minutes) manually initiating a sync can take a minute or so to complete limitations some fields cannot be edited from the org chart email address job id the following fields are not synchronized between workspace and org chart, requiring manual updating in both systems supervisor department photo custom fields employees deleted, archived, or suspended in workspace will not appear in the org chart troubleshooting google workspace doesn't sync in case information from google workspace doesn't sync properly, check this list of correctly for each user in your google workspace account expired token if the google workspace token has expired, it could prevent user data from syncing correctly you will get alerted about token expiration and see an option to reconnect to the google workspace note that google workspace can be connected only by a person with an org chart and google workspace admin rights employee's profile photos missing this can be due to different reasons the employee has not uploaded a profile photo if the employee does not have a profile photo in their google workspace account, their profile photo will not be visible in the org chart the employee has restricted their profile photo visibility employees can limit the visibility of their profile photo only to specific groups or individuals if an employee has restricted their profile photo visibility and you are not in the allowed group, then their profile photo will not be visible to you the employee added their photo after the initial synchronization profile photo synchronization occurs during the initial synchronization any changes to the profile photos after creating the org chart may not get synced in org chart conversely, photos added in org chart will not be visible in workspace
