Data Actions determine how your selection results are saved into the Target Data Extension.

## How it works

There are three available Data Actions:

- **[Overwrite](docId\:nOL0kEctBwQXatcjL_TBO)** (default): Removes existing records from the Target Data Extension and replaces them with the new results. 
- **[Append](docId\:Th6SDYhlq4fEZkgJ-pvwP)**: Adds the new records to the existing data. 
- **[Update](docId\:x-i4NNuZ9ArQt-8rwOJ8H)**: Uses a Primary Key to check if records already exist. It updates existing records with the new data and adds any new records to the Data Extension.

## Select Data Action

You can configure this setting by clicking the **Tools** menu on the** Output** step.

By default, the Data Action is set to **Overwrite**.
