**Notification Banners** are the front-end display components that surface **Notices** to users. Banners are embedded directly into Salesforce pages and show each user's active **Notifications**, which originate from published Notices across one or more **NoticeBoards**.

## How it works

Banners **display Notifications** that result from Notices published via one or more **NoticeBoards**. Each Banner can be:

- **Global** – Aggregating Notices from multiple NoticeBoards.
- **Targeted** – Configured to show only Notices from a specific NoticeBoard (e.g., NB: Compliance).

The **appearance** and **behaviour** of a Banner are configurable via global settings and component options. Depending on your setup, the banner can appear on Salesforce standard pages, Console apps, Portal/Community apps, and custom Visualforce pages.

When a user clicks a Notification in the Banner:

1. They are directed to a detailed **Notification view**.
2. Completing the **Required Action** removes the item from the Banner.
3. The Banner updates in real time or on page refresh, depending on configuration.

### Banner display modes

Banners are available in several formats, allowing you to fit them into different Salesforce UI contexts:

| **Format**      | **Description**                                        | **Suggested location**      |
| --------------- | ------------------------------------------------------ | --------------------------- |
| **Listing** | Displays a vertical list of all current Notifications | Narrow sidebar areas |
| **Carousel** | Shows one Notification at a time with arrows to scroll | Utility Bar or page headers |
| **News Ticker** | Scrolls Notices horizontally, one at a time | Dashboards or homepages |

If there are **no active Notifications**, the Banner can be configured to hide itself or display a custom message.

### Available components

| **Component**                       | **Description**                                                                                                                                               |
| ----------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Notification Banner (Carousel)** | Displays one Notification at a time in a horizontal scrolling layout. Ideal for headers, Utility Bars, or narrow form factors, with optional pop-up behavior. |
| **Notification Banner (List View)** | Shows a vertical list of active Notices. Works well in sidebars or narrow page sections. |
| **Notification Ticker** | Continuously scrolls Notifications across the screen (e.g., like a news ticker). Best for dashboards or full-width layouts. |

### Banners location

**Embed Banners where users work most frequently** (e.g., Utility Bar or record pages).
:::

You can add Notification Banners to the following Salesforce contexts:

- Lightning record pages
- App home pages
- Utility Bars
- Salesforce Console apps (Lightning and Classic)
- Lightning Communities
- Classic Communities (e.g., Napili)
- Classic Salesforce pages
- Custom Visualforce pages (using Classic banners or Lightning components via Lightning Out)

## Embed banners

You can add Banners to different types of Salesforce experiences:

- **Lightning Experience**: Drag and drop Banner components into any Lightning Page or Utility Bar.
- **Console Apps**: Use either Classic or Lightning Banners, added via Custom Console Components.
- **Communities**: Banners can be added to Classic or Lightning Community pages.
- **Visualforce**: Banners can be exposed using Lightning Out.

Each Banner component allows configuration options such as:

- *Default NoticeBoard filter*
- *Header/footer visibility*
- *Height and image scaling*
- *User ability to minimize*

### Lightning UI

::::Tabs
:::Tab{title="Lightning Pages"}
To embed a Notification Banner into a Lightning page:

1. Go to **Setup > Object Manager**, select the object you want to modify (e.g., Account, Case).
2. Navigate to **Lightning Record Pages**, then click **Edit** or **New**.
3. In the **Lightning App Builder**:
   - From the **Components** panel, search for "Notification Banner" to view available layouts (e.g., Carousel, List View, Ticker).
   - Drag the desired component onto the page.
4. Configure the component in the right-hand properties panel:
   - **Default NoticeBoard**: Filter to a specific NoticeBoard if needed.
   - **Header/Footer**: Show or hide these elements.
   - **Height/Width/Scroll Speed**: Adjust layout behavior (e.g., for Carousel, set **Component Body Height** to control appearance):
     - **Full-size Image**: Use when height accommodates the full image (set by the Notice author or via the Default Image parameter), with text spread across three lines and selector lozenges below.
     - **Scaled Image**: Reduces image size as height decreases.
     - **Single-line**: Compresses text to one line for wider form factors (e.g., page headers).
   - **Minimization**: Allow users to collapse the banner (optional).
   - **Suppress Header/Footer**: Optionally hide header and footer areas for a streamlined look.
5. Click **Save**, then **Activate** the page layout.
:::

:::Tab{title="Lightning Utility Bar"}
To add a Notification Banner to the Lightning Utility Bar:

1. Go to **Setup > Apps > App Manager**, select the Lightning app, and click **Edit**.
2. Navigate to the **Utility Items** section in the App Builder.
3. Add a new Utility Item:

### Classic UI

::::Tabs
:::Tab{title="Classic Salesforce Pages"}
Whilst there are many ways to add the NoticeBoard Banner to your Salesforce pages, to
get going quickly for testing, we recommend adding the packaged sidebar (Narrow)
component. Besides, this setup is ideal for displaying Notices in a narrow sidebar column.

1. Go to **Setup > Customize > Home > Home Page Components**.
2. Add the packaged **NoticeBoard (Narrow)** component to the appropriate Users' Home Page Layouts.
3. Ensure the **User Interface** setting **Show Custom Sidebar Components on All Pages** is enabled in **Setup > Customize > User Interface**.
4. Save the layout.
:::

:::Tab{title="Salesforce Console (Classic)"}
To add a Notification Banner to a Classic Console app:

1. Go to **Setup > App Setup > Customize > Service Cloud Console > Custom Console Components**.
2. Create a new **Custom Console Component**:
   - Provide a memorable **Name** and **Button Name**.
   - Assign the **Notification Banner (Classic)** page.
   - Set suggested dimensions: **Width: 1200 pixels**, **Height: 80 pixels** (adjust based on monitor size/resolution).
3. Save the component.
4. Add the component to a Console App:
   - In **Setup**, select the desired Salesforce Console App and click **Edit**.
   - In the **Choose Custom Console Components** section, select the new component and click **Add**.
   - Choose the alignment for Custom Console Components.
5. Save the Console App configuration.

- **Classic Communities**: Contact Unaric for specific setup guidance, as the process varies based on use case.
:::

:::Tab{title="Visualforce Pages"}
1. Use either Classic NoticeBoard Banners or Lightning components (via **Lightning Out** for Lightning components).
2. Add the appropriate component to your Visualforce page markup.
3. Configure the component settings (e.g., default NoticeBoard, display options) as needed. For specific implementation details, contact Unaric support.
