You can use Salesforce’s **Lightning Utility Bar** to make help content available across any Lightning App. This is especially useful for surfacing key resources like a glossary, Help Topic index, or custom reading list where users can access help on demand—no matter where they are in the application.

## How it works

The Utility Bar is a persistent footer in Lightning Apps. When configured, it can:

- Display an always-available **Help panel**.
- Surface context-aware or global **Reading Lists**.
- Act as a shortcut to a **Help glossary** or **topic index**.

## Example use cases

- Add a **Help Index **panel for quick access to all topics across the org.

- Show a **department-specific Reading List** for onboarding or compliance.
- Provide a **custom glossary** of internal terms and acronyms.

## Add a Help panel to the Utility Bar

1. In Salesforce Setup, navigate to **App Manager**.
2. Select the app you want to update, then click **Edit**.
3. In the App Settings sidebar, click **Utility Bar**.
4. Click **Add** and choose a supported Lightning component, such as:
 - **Improved Help – Reading List Viewer**
 - **Improved Help – Topic Search**
5. Configure the component settings as needed (e.g., default reading list or help domain).
6. Click **Save** to finish.
